What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a technique that is used in massage and other therapies to treat muscle pain and restore movement. Muscles make up a large part of the human body, but mainstream healthcare does not tend to focus on them. This is where myofascial release can help. This therapy focuses on the muscles and fascia tissue to help relieve pain.
Why MFR and Yoga?
Age has a tendency to make our bodies start to feel stiff. Often times, our tissues have become dehydrated from chronic stress and trauma or even regular poor posture, sedentary lifestyles. Our fascia has an iron-clad memory, holding on to these traumas, to the poor shapes we make with our bodies day in and day out and begins to tighten up with the dehydration caused from little movement.
The body often needs support from techniques such as Myofascial Release to rehydrate the tissues. Combining the practice of yoga helps this process greatly and can go a long way towards keeping your fascia healthy. Used in conjunction with a yoga practice, MFR can be an accessible and effective way to help with range of motion, injuries, scar tissue, tension, tissue recovery, and muscle function. It is also a way to reconnect to areas of the body where we feel disconnected from physically or emotionally. It can also regulate pain and optimize connective tissue health to minimize injuries.
